What happens when
an airway reopens?
The moving air–liquid interface was the starting point. What happened to epithelial cells when it passed over them? In a controlled flow chamber, the injury could be measured, and the cells' response to pretreatment could be compared.
The film follows a moving air–liquid interface over cultured epithelial cells and the effects of pretreatment on injury. The earlier two-minute film is also available. Reported percentages come from the 2021 paper; the animation illustrates the experiment rather than reproducing microscope footage.

From the film to the evidence.
A visual reconstruction is an introduction to the experiment, not a substitute for the measured results. These records explain the cell model, the original study and the shorter accompanying film.
