Ruwaidix / a scientific film collection

The film begins where
the figure ends.

A moving air–liquid interface injured cultured lung cells. An embedding preparation failed before I could make an interpretable tissue section. Years earlier, I brought a microscope home from Cairo. The films return to these experiments, the people around them and the questions they left behind.

What survives the experiment.

The opening film begins in a school anatomy room and follows the experiments that drew me from chemistry into living systems and inhaled medicines.

What Survives the Experiment

From school anatomy and a microscope carried from Cairo to unsuccessful polymers, developing vessels, injured lung cells and the challenge of inhaled medicines.

Two Materials. No Section.

I tried to embed zebrafish specimens for histological sectioning, but the agarose and paraffin separated during processing. The attempt yielded no interpretable tissue section. Three photographs from the preparation anchor the film.

The Microscope I Brought from Cairo

I bought a microscope in Cairo and brought it home to Qatar. On my desk, it gave me the freedom to return to an observation without booking laboratory time.

What Happens When an Airway Reopens?

One bubble, cultured lung cells and the actual published measurements: 54.7% cell death without pretreatment, versus 15.1% after dexamethasone or 16.1% after transdehydroandrosterone. An in-vitro finding, not a patient-treatment claim.

The Ring That Never Closed

The intended imidazopyridine route did not yield its target. Three characterized imines led to a cyanide-sensing investigation: a yellow-to-orange response, UV–visible changes near 380 and 450 nm, and difficult questions left by exploratory cell-line work.

The laboratory in motion.

Some laboratory memories are recordings rather than photographs. The original clips are collected here, with routes to the relevant research.

Developing vessels

Cardiovascular and optical microscopy in the zebrafish archive. The associated research dossier documents the scientific question and published evidence separately.
