The effects of cell mechanical property alterations on the survival of lung epithelial cells under shear stress
Experimental pulmonary bioengineering: how the mechanical properties of epithelial cells affect injury under fluid-induced stress.
Scientific question
Cell biomechanics and experimental respiratory injury
This project asked whether modifying the mechanics of epithelial cells changes their susceptibility to stress caused by moving air–liquid interfaces. The question is pertinent to alveolar injury during airway reopening and mechanical ventilation.
The archived UREP plan names Mahmoud Abdelrasool among the participating undergraduate researchers. Subsequent peer-reviewed studies developed the experimental flow-chamber methodology and investigated pharmacological modulation of epithelial injury, providing a traceable scientific continuation of this work.
Student research role within a supervised Qatar University team. The original QNRF research plan provides the project scope, with subsequent outputs identified separately.
